Our Foundation followed through with Phase Two of a mission involving the US-based Starkey Hearing Foundation to fit over 800 persons with custom hearing aids on December 4 and 5. Held on the grounds of the University of Technology in St. Andrew, the effort was supported by the Government of Jamaica and other corporate partners.
Phase one of the mission held in June 2017, involved a team of audiologists conducting diagnostic assessments for hearing aid fittings. Assessments included ear screenings, cleanings, hearing tests, and impressions of the inner ear from which custom moulds were created.
"Recipients of hearing aids would find it quite difficult to get them on their own. With this in mind we decided to support this important mission to help deaf and hard of hearing persons navigate their surroundings more comfortably." said Dane Richardson, Digicel Foundation CEO.
